Wild animal tee shirt

I am learning to sketch a wild animal and transfer my drawing to a tee shirt.  I used special fabric markers to colour in my design.

Number sentences to 10

I am learning to read and make patterns to 10. I am learning to write the number sentence using the symbols.

"I can count on from a number to 10.  I can write the number sentence." said Vunara

Reading out loud

We are learning to read familiar poems out loud. We are trying to read with fluency and expression. As we get more confident, we can pay attention to the author's punctuation to help our reading sound more interesting.

"I can sound out words I don't know when I read out loud. I can read loudly so everyone can hear" said Vunara

Wonderful writing

At writing time we are learning to experiment with new types of punctuation. We are starting to read our stories back and check we have fullstops and capital letters in the correct places.

"I can spell the words now and I can do pictures inside the line. I can do so much."

Phonics words

Phonics lessons are a very important part of our Writing programme. In this photo I am learning to hear and record the middle sound in words. When I recognise the pattern, I can write lots of words.

"I am getting clever at doing sounds now".

The ship

I am learning to retell a story from the shared big book.  I was able to write or find the words I needed.

Reading Eggs

We use the Reading Eggs online programme to help us improve our literacy skills. We can do this at school and at home.

"I can listen to the words and match them to the picture. I have to look carefully at the words."

Measuring Challenges

We were learning to compare similar objects that differ only in length. We were experimenting with measuring with non-standard units.  We were learning to have an accurate starting and finishing point when we measured and use measuring language. 

Patterns to five

I am learning to make patterns of five.  I can play a game to help me learn.

" I can put two numbers to make 5." said Vunara.

Owl babies

We are learning to publish our writing for an audience, because we are authors. In Room 3 we try to present our work in many different and interesting ways to encourage people to come and read our fabulous stories!

"I can write 2 or 3 sentences by myself" said Vunara.

High frequency words.

I am learning to read and write my high frequency words independently.

"I can write and robot the words for reading and story writing."said Vunara

Matariki

Our classroom celebrated Matariki, which is the Maori New Year. We came to school in our pyjamas and had a yummy breakfast together! It is great to share time with our whanau.

"It was so exciting. I had my pyjamas at school and I had some breakfast. "

Kai and Korero Evening

At the start of the year Elm Park School had a Kai and Korero evening. Our families, students and teachers got together to share what happens in our classrooms and then we finished with a picnic.

"My Mum comes to school every day and my Dad comes to. My family is kind, so kind."

Tread Lightly Caravan visit

The Tread lightly Caravan visit was teaching us that the environment is everything around us in nature and that the environment is really important for us to live (trees for oxygen, water to drink, plants for food etc.) so we need to look after it.

"My mum came to. She is helping to grow the plants."

Story Writing

We are learning to write down our ideas and draw a picture to match.

Counting backwards from 10

I am learning to count backward from 10 ordering them as I go.

" I can count to 11 and I can count backwards from 10." said Vunara

Beginning sounds

I am learning to get my mouth ready to make the beginning sound to help me read unknown words.

"I can make the sounds that the word starts with" said Vunara
